Address: Lassarettsgatan 5, 592 24 Vadstena

:

2 200 - 3 000 SEK (Average listed price for two people in a double room with half-board.)
Vadstena Klosterhotel offers comfortable accommodation in a historic environment. During the Middle Ages, Vadstena was the location of a catholic monastery for munks and nuns of the Birgittine order. The hotel is largely located in the same medieval buildings that were once the monastery, now adapted to meet the requirements of modern living.
The small town of Vadstena, by lake Vättern, bears witness of many ancient Swedish celebrities, who were active in the town and its surroundings; among them Holy Bridget (Birgitta), king Gustav Vasa, prince Eugen and the author and Nobel price winner Verner von Heidenstam.

The rooms of Vadstena Klosterhotel are beautifully decorated with furniture adapted to different time epochs. And the hotel restaurant, Restaurant Munkklostret, has a well stocked wine cellar that contains wines from all major wine districts, with red wines from France as its speciality.

Special features:

The convent hotel, retains many of its original rooms and features. Occasionally, pupils of the Vadstena Academy hold opera rehearsals here - much to the delight of the guests. The restaurant adjoins another magnificent building.

Activities:

Vadstena (18-hole course), Tennis, sailing, fishing, opera and theatre, muse-ums, nature rambles by Lake Tåkern and in Omberg nature reserve, shopping etc.

Kitchen description:

Our restaurant manager and his staff are tireless in their efforts to give you a tasteful and memorable experience in a medieval environment. Our chef uses only carefully chosen raw materials; locally grown produce when in season, and fish, crawfish and game from the area. The kitchen still uses herbs from the cloister’s herbal garden.
