Welcome to Restaurant Munkklostret!Vadstena cloister, which was founded by St. Birgitta and erected according to her instructions, was a so called double monastery, with a separate monastery for monks and an abbey for nuns. Restaurant Munkklostret is situated in the building that still remains of the monastery for monks.
The building was only one story high during its cloister period. Almost the whole building was used as dormitory for the monks, with two rows of sleeping cells separated by a corridor in the middle. There were two cells under each cross vault, which would mean a total of approximately six sleeping cells within today’s dining room area.
Our restaurant manager and his staff are tireless in their efforts to give you a tasteful and memorable experience in a medieval environment. Our chef uses only carefully chosen raw materials; locally grown produce when in season, and fish, crawfish and game from the area. The kitchen still uses herbs from the cloister’s herbal garde.
