A Cultural and Historical Journey Through Sweden

A journey through Sweden’s literary and film history – A hotel tour with a cultural twist
Welcome to a unique tour where we explore some of Sweden’s most charming hotels, each infused with history, literature, and film. Join us on a journey from Trollywood’s cinematic world to Astrid Lindgren’s magical Småland and Wallander’s thrilling Ystad.
Trollhättan – Albert Hotel: Trollywood’s cinematic epicenter
Our journey begins in Trollhättan, the heart of Sweden’s film industry, often called “Trollywood.”
Here you’ll find Albert Hotel, offering a magnificent view of the Göta River. The hotel, housed in a historic turn-of-the-century villa, combines modern design with a warm atmosphere.
Trollhättan is where many Swedish films and series have come to life. During our stay, we can explore the Film i Väst studio and the famous Walk of Fame, where the names of Swedish film icons adorn the streets. In the evening, we enjoy dinner at the hotel’s award-winning restaurant, where local ingredients are transformed into artistic culinary experiences. With Trollywood’s magic in mind, we fall asleep in our luxurious rooms, ready for the next stop.

Trollhättan – Villa Gransholm, Gemla: Astrid Lindgren’s fairytale Småland
250 km, 3 hours
After a scenic journey through the Småland forests, we arrive at Villa Gransholm in Gemla, a charming manor house dating back to the early 20th century. Here, we find ourselves in the heart of Astrid Lindgren’s Småland, the birthplace of beloved characters such as Pippi Longstocking, Emil of Lönneberga, and Ronja Rövardotter.
Villa Gransholm is surrounded by lush gardens and a magical atmosphere, perfect for immersing oneself in Lindgren’s world. During our visit, we take time to explore Astrid Lindgren’s Näs in Vimmerby, where we learn more about the author’s life and inspiration. Back at the hotel, we end the day with a dinner reflecting the Småland landscape in every dish – from lingonberries and mushrooms to wild game.
Gemla – Brösarp’s Gästgifveri, Brösarp: Henning Mankell’s Wallander in Ystad
160 km, 2 hours
Our final stop takes us to Brösarp’s Gästgifveri, located at the gateway to Österlen. This guesthouse, with its timeless charm and idyllic surroundings, has attracted visitors for centuries.
We explore Ystad, just a short drive away, where Henning Mankell’s famous Wallander crime novels take place. Here, we can walk the streets where Kurt Wallander has solved his cases and visit locations that has made Ystad a central hub for both books and films.
Back at Brösarp’s Gästgifveri, we unwind in the spa area before enjoying a dinner inspired by Österlen’s rich agricultural landscape.

After this journey through Sweden’s literary and cinematic worlds, we not only feel culturally enriched but also filled with new impressions from each place we have visited. Each hotel has offered a unique insight into Sweden’s rich cultural heritage – and we are already longing for our next adventure.
