DAY 1 & 2 – Stockholm – The Capital of Scandinavia

Discover Stockholm’s rich cultural heritage by visiting the city’s many museums and attractions. One of the most popular excursion destinations is the open-air museum Skansen, where you can experience Swedish history and culture by walking among historic buildings and meeting animals from the Swedish countryside.

The Vasa Museum is also one of the city’s main attractions, where you can admire the magnificent 17th-century ship Vasa and learn about its dramatic fate. For those interested in natural history, the Natural History Museum is a must-visit, with an impressive collection of Swedish and international plants, animals and minerals.

Day 3 & 4 – Dalarna – recommended by the New York Times!

Drive 2-3 hours northwest to Dalarna, which The New York Times recommends as one of the “best places to see in 2012”. As you know, this landscape is also home to our great Swedish painters: Carl Larsson and Anders Zorn. Their homes are now open to the public and serve as museums and galleries for the artist’s work.

The whole area around Lake Siljan is full of craft shops and art galleries, and this is the place to be during national holidays such as Midsummer and Christmas, for that genuinely traditional celebration. The stunningly beautiful nature of this region comes as an added bonus!

Stay at: Tällbergsgårdens Hotel or Fryksås Hotel & Gestgifveri.
Driving distance from previous night’s hotel: 2-3.5 hours

DAY 5-6 – Tradition, heritage and culture

Journey east across Sweden to Hälsingland, a region renowned for its centuries-old, proud farmhouses known as “Hälsingegårdarna.” These historic farmhouses, many of which are open to the public, serve as museums showcasing the region’s fascinating history and rich culture. Immerse yourself in the heritage of Hälsingland and explore the beautifully preserved architecture and interiors of these unique buildings.

In addition to the Hälsingegårdarna, take the opportunity to visit the numerous country churches scattered throughout the breathtaking landscape. Each church tells its own story and adds to the tapestry of Hälsingland’s cultural heritage.

DAY 7 & 8 – Walloon mills

Discover the charm and history of Walloon mills, a collective name for several mills in northern Uppland, established in the 17th century. These mills were created when financier Louis De Geer imported skilled Belgian laborers, known as Walloons, from Wallonia in Belgium. The Upland Walloon mills are remarkable sites, rich in history and culture, and are well worth a visit.

To fully experience the stunning natural beauty of Roslagen, we recommend taking a scenic drive along the coast. Don’t miss the opportunity to visit the historic city of Uppsala, where centuries of heritage and vibrant cultural attractions await.
