A romantic trip to Sweden

Malmö – Ängavallen 22 km, 25 minutes

Our first stop on our romantic Sweden trip is the fantastic Ängavallen. This unique hotel is located in the middle of the Skåne plain with the fields and animals just around the corner. During our stay at Ängavallen we will experience both enjoyment and learning about our food from farm to table, where everything served is 100% organic. We will live in the middle of nature and get to experience the farm’s own vegetable garden, bakery, charcuterie, cheese factory, dairy, smokehouse and meet all the farm’s animals that live outdoors in the open air all year round. Here they are convinced that the best food is made with the best ingredients. And the best ingredients are here.

Here we can enjoy the sea only 5 km away, such as Falsterbo and Skanör. For golf lovers there are several nearby golf courses. If you don’t want to leave the farm there is much to experience and see, their colorful 19th century farm with Örtagården which has more than 60 different organically grown herbs and spices. Here is also Sweden’s first farm shop where we can buy the same fine ingredients that the chefs offer in the restaurant.

In the evening we sit down to the table in the old stable and enjoy an unforgettable dinner that is reflected in the award-winning cuisine. Spices and vegetables have been taken from our own herb garden and the meat on the plate is from animals raised under all conceivable natural conditions. We fall asleep comfortably in our exquisite room, which is of course 100% organic. After having a wonderful organic breakfast, we leave the unique Ängavallen and look forward to a new day with new experiences.

Ängavallen, Velling – Brösarps Gästgifveri & SPA, Brösarp 100 km, 1 hour 15 minutes

The journey continues. Our next stop is the wonderful Brösarps Gästgifveri & SPA.

Brösarps Gästgifveri is a peaceful and relaxing place surrounded by incredibly beautiful nature at the entrance to the idyllic Österlen. Österlen, which is known for its nature with a connection to the sea, is a perfect stop on our romantic tour.

The Gästgifveri, which is in a classic style with modern elements, offers many exciting things for us to do. In addition to strolling around the cozy village, we naturally want to experience their newly built spa with several types of pools and saunas.

Something that Brösarps prides itself on is their food, which is sourced from neighbors in the area. By collaborating with local growers and breeders, the hotel delivers authentic flavors and fresh ingredients to its guests. This way, you get a unique opportunity to enjoy the region’s best culinary experiences. We choose, something we don’t regret, to try their famous egg cake before we, full and satisfied, fall into our fine “Mansion Room”.

Brösarps Gästgifveri, Brösarp – Vadstena Klosterhotel, Vadstena 350 km, 4 hours 20 minutes

Today we set course for Vadstena Klosterhotel. We will travel north via Kristianstad, Värnamo and on towards Jönköping and finally the medieval town of Vadstena. Our last hour in the car before reaching our destination we will drive alongside beautiful Lake Vättern. Here we will stop in the famous candy town of Gränna and visit one of the many distilleries to see how the production is done and taste a freshly cooked lukewarm sweet. One of these distilleries is Polkapojkarna where you will receive a very personal service from those who work there, the shop is decorated in 19th century style with an iron stove, mirrored doors and contemporary details.

With the car full of gifts from cozy Gränna, we set course for our destination. After about 50 minutes, we turn into the Monastery area and immediately feel the wings of history. Vadstena Klosterhotell is the hotel where the old meets the new. Here are some of Sweden’s oldest buildings; the Holy Birgitta Monastery from the 14th century, Birger Jarl’s princely palace and the Kungsalen from the 13th century. After checking into our room, we look forward to the treatments we have booked at the new monastery spa. Here we enjoy a relaxing environment with crackling fires and candlelight.

In the evening, we enjoy dinner in the old Monastery where the menu follows the Swedish flavors of the season, while we admire the beautiful vaults that were once beaten by monks. The wine we order with the meal is brought from the ground floor where the wine cellar from 1384 is located. Here are 5000 bottles divided into about 700 different types of wine.
The next morning we have a delicious breakfast buffet and go on to more romantic adventures.

Vadstena Klosterhotel, Vadstena – Båsenberga Hotel, Vingåker 110 km, 1 hour 50 minutes

We arrive at Båsenberga Hotel outside Vingåker. Here we feel like we have left the noise and stress behind us as we step into this oasis of tranquility. Here, tranquility reigns and it is not difficult to let ourselves be swept away by the soothing atmosphere.

We start with a romantic walk along the nearby green paths and then we settle down with a glass of bubbly in the shade of the apple trees in the yard. When it is time to satisfy our hunger, we indulge in a delicious meal in the fine restaurant. The atmosphere, food and service are of the same high class.

On the way to our room we see a family of deer sneaking up right on the edge of the house, a reminder of the close contact with nature that characterizes this place. We will come back here.

Båsenberga Hotel, Vingåker – Gysinge Manor, Gysinge 197 km, 2 hours 30 minutes

The journey takes us further up towards Gästrikland and Gysinge Manor. Driving into the area is a bit like driving into a fairy tale. Here, the Dalälven river rushes dramatically around us and straight ahead the stately manor towers up on a hill.

The interior does not disappoint us either. Our room is beautifully decorated with a view of the sparkling river. Romanticism is just the first name here.

Before dinner, we set out on a journey of discovery in the fine mining town that is Gysinge. We walk past ruins with an exciting history and also look into several flea markets and small picturesque shops. There is also a nature center here with interesting exhibitions about the area’s natural and cultural history.

We end the evening with a delicious dinner in the Orangeriet, which is the manor’s restaurant. It will be the icing on the cake and the end of our romantic trip to Sweden.
